How Often Should You Train? A Simple Guide
Paul Adent · August 5, 2026
Two, three, or four days a week? The right answer depends on your goals, your recovery, and your schedule.
Start with your goal
Your training frequency should serve your goal, not the other way around. Someone building strength can progress well on three sessions a week. Someone focused on movement quality and rehab may do better with two focused sessions plus daily walking.
Recovery is where progress happens
You do not get stronger during the workout. You get stronger when your body recovers from it. Training every day without recovery leads to burnout and injury, not faster results.
A practical starting point
For most people, two to three one-on-one sessions per week is the sweet spot. It is frequent enough to build skill and strength, and spaced enough to recover. From there, your trainer adjusts based on how you respond.
Consistency beats intensity
The program you can stick to for a year beats the intense one you abandon in a month. A good trainer builds your schedule around your life, not the other way around.
